Weekly Objectives


This is where you can locate what your child is learning and studying for the week. This is a way to communicate with your child about what they have learned this week in school.

Reading: We will be blending, spelling, and reading words that contain the R-Controlled Vowel
(ar, ir, ur, er). The story we will be reading and discussing this week is "Finding Shelter" and "Home". Vocabulary words are creatures, shady, and hibernating. In unit 9, our stories for this unit is called "Home, Sweet Home". The students will discover more in-depth information about how different homes are built around the world. They will learn reasons for their different appearances , or the various ways they are constructed. We will have our Reading test and spelling test on Friday.

Language Arts: We will continue to work on writers workshop. We will be publishing our Nonfiction Writing Unit. 
         
**Grammar: We will be reviewing verbs. Verbs are action words.


Math:  We are working on Ch. 12 Length, Weight, and Capacity. In this unit we will be learning about different types of measurement. Vocabulary words- short, shorter, long, longer, heavy, and heavier. Next week will be Math test.


Science/ Social Studies: We will begin on Ch. 5 Plants and Animals. We will begin lesson 2 and 3. In these lessons we will learn parts of a plant and what they do and the differences between living and nonliving things.. The essential questions are "What are the parts of a plant?" and "What are nonliving and living things?". The vocabulary words are root, stem, leaf, living, and nonliving.


We will also be working on Unit 3: Beginning Economics. We will be working on Lesson 2: Barter and Money. The essential question is "Why do we need money?".  The vocabulary for this lesson is barter, money, exchange, .
